TIME & PLACE: Saturday Afternoon, April 4, 2009
The Upper East Side, at The Society Of Illustrators, 128 East 63rd Street, NYC

FASHION LIGHTENING STRIKES!
We walked in just 20 minutes before the club was going to close. What was on the walls of the ground floor gallery took our breath away, to the point that we signed [and commented] in the guest book – something we’re rarely moved to do. Ours was one of the many raves about this month-long exhibit that ends on Saturday, May 2nd. If there’s any way you can make it into NY, DO IT. If you love fashion and you’re in the area, it’s a MUST SEE.

THE EXHIBIT
The exhibit spans 2 of the Society’s galleries, and was curated by Robert W. Richards.
You’ll find the works of just about every fashion illustrator who’d make the WHO’S WHO list of illustrators if such as list existed. The only notable missing was AAU’s Gladys Perrint Palmer. When we enquired, a staffer told us she was represented in the Permanent Exhibit.

WHO’S ON THE WALLS
Alvaro, Kenneth Paul Block, Antonio Lopez, Bil Donovan, Eric, Joe Eula, JC Leyendecker, Mel Odom, George Stavrinos, Michael Vollbracht, and STEVEN BROADWAY, a Professor at F.I.T. – our new favorite. Bear in mind, that’s’ just a partial listing.

The piece de resistance was on the ground floor, straight in back – a black and white ink drawing of fashion icon, BABE PALEY, by KENNETH PAUL BLOCK, whose long elegant lines and short bouffant hair make her instantly recognizable. Equally wonderful was STEVEN BROADWAY’s image of a model clad in Chanel, Lagerfeld style.
